A facility’s performance relies heavily on its building envelope. NPC provides building testing and forensic services to advise owners on ways to improve performance. Our program is administered by Miles Burnam, whose portfolio includes schools, hospitals, sports stadiums, and military/government facilities. Miles is an FAA-certified UAS pilot who utilizes drones to help gather building data.
Air/Water Barrier
Air and water barriers (AWBs) are a crucial component of the building envelope that help to maintain the interior conditions by preventing uncontrolled air and water movement in and out of the building envelope. Continuity and proper adhesion are crucial to the performance of AWBs. Testing the AWB of your building provides critical information regarding the quality of installation and performance of the AWB.
Window & Door (Fenestration)
Doors and windows are common failure points in building envelopes. Incorrectly installed windows are prone to leakage, damaging finishes and increasing the potential for organic growth within the wall assembly. Window and door testing can not only be useful to verify installations during construction but also as a tool for identifying leak locations in existing fenestration systems.
Roofing
Quality roofing systems are vital for the performance of a building envelope. Roofs take the brunt of the elements, so it is crucial that they are installed in a continuous and watertight fashion. Roof testing and scanning can identify discontinuities and damage in installed roofing systems.
Building Envelope
Project specifications often include whole building envelope testing requirements. Whole building testing can also be helpful in detecting air leakage which may be affecting your building’s performance. Additionally, whole building infrared scanning can be useful in detecting areas of suspected water damage in roofing and cladding systems.
